Myopia Clinic
MANAGING YOUR CHILD’S PRESCRIPTION

TAKE AN ACTIVE ROLE IN CONTROLLING YOU CHILD’S MYOPIA
As your child grows their prescription can increase. Our Myopia Control Clinic uses the latest research and treatments to help control their prescription as they age. As a parent growing up as you prescription changed you simply updated your glasses or contact lenses. Now we can dramatically slow down the rate of increase of you child’s prescription so that when they are done growing they are left with a much small prescription.
WHAT IS MYOPIA?
Myopia occurs when the eye grows too long. As a result, objects are focussed in front of the retina, and objects in the distance appear blurry. It is the eye growing too long that increases the risk of eye conditions later in life.
WHAT IS MYOPIA CONTROL?
Myopia control is a relatively new field backed up by solid clinical research that allows us to slow down a child’s prescription as they grow. There are numerous methods to choose from, our goal is to help you decide which one(s) would be most appropriate for your child.

TREATMENTS EXPLORED
Choosing the right therapy for your child will depend on factors such as lifestyle, age, maturity and parental myopia. The team at Abbey Eye Care will help guide you towards the best option for your child.

worn during the day. These lenses

slow down prescription change.

OrthoKeratology (OK)

reshapes the front of the eye. This provides
freedom from glasses or contact lenses
during the day and slows progression.

Eye Drops

at a pharmacy. Extensively studied worldwide, these drops can help slow down you child’s prescription change.
LIFESTYLE OPTIONS
Lifestyle modifications play a crucial role in all myopia management plans. For example, growing evidence supports that more time spent outdoors may slow down the progression of myopia.
It is believed that 2 hours of cumulative outdoor time each day can reduce the likelihood that you child will become myopic. If you child is myopic already, outdoor time can slow down progression rates.
